Christmas Vodka

Ingredients - makes 2¼ pints (1.3 litres)

1 litre bottle vodka 1 cinnamon stick
4 tbsp dark brown sugar 2 cloves
Peel of 1 orange and 1 lemon Peel of 1 orange and 1 lemon
1oz (25gms) each currants, raisins and dried figs, halved if large


  1. Combine all the ingredients in a large jug. Pour into a 1.3 litre (2¼ pint) sterilised bottle or glass container. Seal with a screw cap.
  2. Leave for two weeks in a cool, dark place, turning occasionally to mix ingredients.
  3. When ready, decant into a sterilised bottle and add a piece of lemon and orange peel and a cinnamon stick. Label with a drink-by date (use within 3 months) with instructions “serve over ice with tonic, or add to cocktails”.
